Making the Den Warmer
This client wanted a more casual, warmer look for her den. The Tibetan wool rug in a geometric pattern of earth tones and blues served as the starting point of the design concept. To alleviate the white walls which dominated the large room, the fireplace was stripped of its white paint down to the bare wood and given a simple tung oil finish to accentuate its natural color and combine with the warm woods in the room. |

The ceiling was accented with a warm beige color. We chose an asymmetrical arrangement of few large objects for the mantel, using a crimson orchid to pick up the red accents throughout the room and relate back to the cinnamon tones in the rug. The end product was a happy client whose den now has the warm, casual look she wanted. |

We reupholstered her heirloom Morris chair (lower right) in a small blue and gold patterned geometric print to coordinate with her existing blue chenille club chair. We then designed and constructed an ottoman which combined both fabrics to pull the two pieces together, and which also functions as a coffee table. The vintage ‘30s bentwood platform rocker was upholstered in a rust red fabric with a small, fun goldfish pattern in keeping with the warm, colorful feel of the room (left). We designed coordinating envelope throw pillows and neck roll pillows using all three fabrics to pull the look together. |
